ASPIRA Inc. of New Jersey, in partnership with the Nita M. Lowey Community Learning Centers, hosted an eight-week summer enrichment program, available to youth across the city of Newark, New Jersey. Over 100 young people from Elliott, McKinely and Park Elementary Schools enrolled in the program, providing a needed service to their families and the community as a whole.

The program utilizes summer hours by providing additional academics and learning opportunities that complement the preceding school year's teachings, preventing the dreaded "Summer Slide"-  the critical three months of educational loss.

Youth are exposed to a bevy of fun and engaging opportunities ranging from Media Arts (Music & Video Production,  Graphic Design), traditional arts and crafts, dance, games, sports, and exercise opportunities. Students are also provided lunch, beverages, and snacks throughout the extent of the program. 

The summer programming concluded into a "Fun Day," which treated the kids to bounce house slides, water activities, carnival-style games, along with a full BBQ and music at two locations. In addition, ASPIRA also provided video games and movies as a reward for their participation and hard work.

"Kids deserve an opportunity to be kids," stated Carlos Valentin, Jr., Executive Director of ASPIRA Inc., of New Jersey. "Play, exercise, and social interactions, all in a fun environment are as equally important to the development of our youth. This day is one of the many ways that we want to reward our young people for participating in our programs for a job well done. Our staff, teachers, and aides also have a blast engaging with their students outside of the classroom. It truly is a team and community effort."
