ASPIRA Inc., of New Jersey would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Sara Peña for being named the recipient of SHCC-NJ's  (Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of NJ) "Latina Trailblazer of the Year" award.  Ms. Peña , along with several other award recipients, will be honored this Friday, through a virtual gala on Facebook and Youtube. (Info below)

As a supporter, ally and friend to ASPIRA, Ms. Peña continues to  support our efforts to impact youth and families in the communities in which we serve. She has been instrumental in providing insights, guidance and leadership in a myriad of different collaborative efforts with our organization, and we are deeply appreciative of all of her contributions.

 

Ms. Peña has always been one of Newark's staunchest advocates  for change, innovation and upliftment of underserved communities.  She has developed and extensive cache of experience in developing and promoting services through her work at the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development.  Since her tenure, thousands have been positively impacted by her work, changing the trajectory for generations to come.

ABOUT HER
Sara Peña, lives in Newark, New Jersey, along with her family, where she was born, raised and educated. Her mother was born in Ecuador and her father in Dominican Republic. She is the Director of the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development in the Department of State.
 

Ms. Peña is a dedicated bilingual professional with extensive experience in developing and promoting services while addressing the needs of the community with a superior record of successful community service and engagement.

Prior to her current position, she worked in the Public Affairs Department at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, where she managed the hospital overall community outreach program ranging from partnerships with local government agencies, educational institutions, faith based, law enforcement and municipal alliances.
 

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Management from Kean University in 1996 and while at Kean became a sister of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated. In May 2014, Ms. Peña received her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Rutgers University in Newark, and was inducted into the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Pi Alpha Alpha.
 

Ms. Peña is president of the LUPE Fund, Inc., an organization dedicated to the empowerment of all Latinas in New Jersey.
