ASPIRA's virtual learning program teaches and celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Dr. William H. Horton Elementary School

ASPIRA of NJ, in conjunction with the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, and the 4th through 8th-grade classes at the Dr. William H. Horton Elementary School honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a virtual lesson about his life and the Civil Rights movement. ASPIRA's very own Program Coordinator, Soledad "Maggie" Aguilar shared her experiences teaching students about the incredible life of Dr. King.

"It's important that the kids understand that Dr. King didn't just fight for the rights of African-American and Black people," stated Maggie." His words and lessons inspired many other leaders such as the great Delores Huerta, Cesar Chavez, and even our very own founder, Dr. Antonia Pantoja to start their own movements for Latino and Hispanic people. We taught our kids that he fought for all people to have many of the rights that we have today. This is critical and important history to share with them, especially at this age."
